Fiction and Fact From Greg's Almanac! Ski
Sea Sea Story #1:
Sea Owl was in Bermuda in 1968. Sam
goes to the Naval Station Special Services Office and checks out a 20 ft. knockabout
sailboat with no engine. Sam asks if any one would like to go sailing and Greg Lee
volunteered. They sailed all over Hamilton Harbor with winds 12-15 knots. On the way
back to the ship, they ran across a motor launch that had crapped out. Two sailors
were attempting to get the engine running. It was the Captain's gig of CO, Naval Station.
We towed them under sail back to their berth. Nobody ever believed this sea story until
Greg recently E-mailed Sam recalling the incident. That's when Sam decided to
publish this account. Shown above is a photo of Greg who had just recently won his Silver
Dolphins.
Sea Owl Sea Story #2:

Sea Owl Sea Story #4:
In January 1969 we went
on Operation Springboard. Ski
Sam (XO) remembered one of his old skippers who always inspired his crew by telling
them that "Submarining Is Fun!!!". At quarters prior to getting underway, Sam
stood up
and told the troops: "Submarining is Fun!!". We snorkeled most of the way down.
Every
time Sam passed through the After Engine Room, Ski would always exclaim through the
heat and noise: "This is Fun!!". Sometimes we're better off devising our own
original
inspirational bywords. The farther south we got the hotter it got and the less funny it
seemed. Recently, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fulkowski stopped by St. Pete Beach enroute
to South Florida. Below is a photo showing from left: Pat, Ski, Sam, and Daisy, prior to
going out and getting blasted. Ski: Submarining really WAS Fun!! (Photo March
1999).
